Education:

Originally from West Virginia, Mr. Martin is licensed to practice in both North Carolina and South Carolina. He graduated from Cornell University (B.A., History, 1994) and from Wake Forest University School of Law (J.D. 1997, cum laude). In law school he was a member of the Wake Forest Law Review and was awarded the Order of the Coif. Mr. Martin is the author of an article entitled "A Proposal to Reform the North Carolina Workers' Compensation Act to Address Mental-Mental Claims" 32 Wake Forest L. Rev. 193 (1997).

Mr. Martin represents businesses in litigation disputes throughout North and South Carolina with a primary focus on workers' compensation defense, mediation, and construction disputes. Mr. Martin has significant experience in jurisdictional disputes and is frequently called upon to handle claims potentially arising under both North Carolina and South Carolina workers' compensation laws. He also has handled many insurance coverage disputes in both states as well as more traditional workers' compensation and construction litigation. He is a certified mediator and has mediated cases since 2006.

Professional Bio:

Mr. Martin is a member of the Gaston County, North Carolina, South Carolina, and American Bar Associations. He has served as President of the Gaston County Bar Association and the 27A-Judicial District, and also served as Treasurer and Vice President of those same organizations.

Mr. Martin has served as the chairman for the Local Advisory Council for Legal Aid in Cleveland, Gaston, and Lincoln Counties.

Personal Bio:

Mr. Martin is a member of the Volunteer Lawyers' Committee for Legal Aid and Director at Large for the Cornell Club of Charlotte. He has been awarded the Gaston County Volunteer Lawyers' Program Service Award multiple times.

Mr. Martin is an avid trail runner, was a series age-group winner in the 2010 and 2011 Carolina Trail Run Series, and has completed two trail marathons and numerous half-marathons.
